Music From The Lab
Music From The Lab is a startup that focuses on licensing high-quality, independent music to artists, filmmakers, and creatives of all types. They approached me about helping them not only design their website, but set a strong creative vision for their product. I worked with closely with the founders and team to design and develop the site over the span of a few months.
Within a week of having our kick-off call, we jumped right in and started laying out high-level items like a sitemap and defining some of the basic information architecture (IA) for the site. This naturally forced us to reevaluate certain user flows and make changes early on before investing heavily in any visual design.
Their team worked quickly develop a comprehensive set of business requirements for each page that allowed us to iterate and discuss, and move quickly from IA to sketches and wireframes.
Creating an online community.
During our discovery phase, one thing became increasingly clear—they wanted to make sure that at the end of the project, someone could come to their site and understand that they are both a music licensing company, but also a company focused on creating community. Because of this, I focused on using large imagery throughout the site, organic based layouts, and introduced a hand-written typeface to balance out the stark use of Roboto.
